Overall Purpose: Responsible for implementation of existing and upcoming tax legislation (taxability and rates) in our various billing systems. Identify opportunities to minimize the organizations legal tax liabilities and to account for those tax liabilities in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles, as well as a focus on ongoing process automation using various billing and tax applications and resources.
Additional responsibility include research and resolve transaction tax determination and billing discrepancy questions from both internal clients and external customers. Investigation may require open a case to internal IT or data team for cause/determination/quantification/resolution. Connects with peers as required, using all available resources, to bring successful resolution to customer tax inquiries. Responds to inquiry and maintains tax inquiry records per established policies and procedures.
Key Roles and Responsibilities:
Work with technology teams to ensure that rates and rules are accurate in end user customer billing systems which involves coordination with all areas of transaction tax (audit, compliance, R&P, etc). Review and analysis of customer invoices. Work with 3rd party vendors to ensure that rates and situsing rules are accurate. Opportunities to implement process automation via Alteryx and other desktop automation tools.
Position requires the ability to locate and assemble information from customer tax inquiry systems, billing applications, tax tables, solve basic arithmetic problems, and communicate effectively with internal sources such as Sales, Care, Collections, Office of the President (OOP), Legal, DTV, Research and Planning.
Experience:
Strong technical knowledge of state and local transaction tax laws and regulations.
Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
Proficiency in tax software and other financial management tools such as Excel, Alteryx, SQL queries, Snowflake is a plus.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Strong problem-solving and interpersonal skills.
At least four to five years of experience in tax billing or a related field.
Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Typically requires 5-7 years of experience in a related field.
