Job Description:
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Specialist in Database Administration. The primary focus of this role is to modernize legacy Oracle applications currently hosted on bare metal servers and convert them to PostgreSQL on cloud-based technology stacks. This position is integral to our organization's strategic initiative to enhance our database infrastructure and improve overall system performance.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Modernization and Conversion:
◦ Modernize legacy Oracle applications and transition them to PostgreSQL environments hosted on cloud infrastructure.
◦ Design and implement efficient data migration strategies to ensure seamless transitions.
2. Performance Testing:
◦ Assist developers in conducting comprehensive performance tests to validate the efficiency and reliability of the new PostgreSQL systems.
◦ Identify and resolve performance bottlenecks to optimize system performance.
3. Functionality Termination and Migration:
◦ Evaluate and terminate unused functionalities within legacy applications to streamline operations.
◦ Migrate existing workflows and processes to other viable applications or systems where applicable.
4. Project Management:
◦ Oversee the retirement or modernization of 42 legacy applications.
◦ Develop and maintain project timelines, ensuring all milestones are met.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
1. Technical Expertise:
◦ Extensive experience with Oracle database administration and PostgreSQL.
◦ Proficiency in cloud-based technologies and platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, Google Cloud).
◦ Strong understanding of data migration techniques and tools.
2. Analytical and Problem-Solving Skills:
◦ Ability to conduct thorough performance testing and optimization.
◦ Strong analytical skills to identify and resolve system inefficiencies.
3. Project Management:
◦ Experience managing large-scale database projects.
◦ Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
4. Collaboration and Communication:
◦ Ability to work collaboratively with developers and other stakeholders.
◦ Strong communication skills to effectively convey technical information to non-technical team members.
5. Adaptability:
◦ Ability to quickly adapt to new technologies and methodologies.
◦ Willingness to continuously learn and stay updated with industry trends.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Certification in Oracle and/or PostgreSQL database administration.
• Experience with DevOps practices and tools.
• Previous experience in modernizing legacy systems.
