About the Team and the Role:

The Platform Engineering team within the Consumer Technology eXperience (CTX) organization delivers reliable, scalable, and high-performance platforms and solutions across omnichannel. We adapt to customers' evolving needs by adhering to industry best practices, continuously enhancing our offerings, and embracing innovative technologies.


The Director of Engineering - Marketing Technology (MarTech) Platform will spearhead the product definition, design, development, and implementation of innovative technology solutions that enable marketing teams to deliver highly personalized, data-driven customer experiences, driving engagement and maximizing impact. This role requires a strategic leader with a strong technical background, deep expertise in marketing technology platforms, and the ability to align engineering efforts with business goals.


The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of managing high-performing engineering teams, driving innovation, and delivering scalable solutions that enhance marketing effectiveness and operational efficiency.

What You'll Do:

Strategic Planning and Vision

  • Establish and articulate a clear vision and strategy for the MarTech stack, aligning it with the company's long-term strategic, marketing, and business objectives.
  • Work closely with marketing, product, and business leaders to identify opportunities to leverage technology for improved customer engagement, campaign performance, and ROI.
  • Monitor industry trends and emerging technologies in MarTech, evaluating their potential impact and applicability to the organization.

Team Leadership and Development

  • Lead, mentor, and grow a high-performing team of software engineers, data engineers, data scientists, data analysts, and product management professionals, fostering a culture of innovation and continuous improvement.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to team members, aiding in their skill development and career advancement.
  • Establish clear goals and expectations for the team, ensuring accountability and delivering results on time and within budget.
  • Work with cross-functional teams, including product, IT, and sales, to align and integrate MarTech initiatives with broader business strategies.

Technical Implementation and Optimization

  • Translate the needs, challenges, and goals of marketing teams into technical requirements and solutions.
  • Manage the definition, design, development, and deployment of scalable, secure, and reliable MarTech solutions, including CDPs, marketing automation tools, and advanced analytics platforms.
  • Oversee the integration of MarTech solutions with existing systems such as CRM, e-commerce platforms, and data warehouses.
  • Implement tools and processes for measuring and optimizing marketing campaign performance, customer segmentation, and attribution modeling.
  • Continuously monitor and evaluate the performance of MarTech solutions, identifying areas for improvement and driving ongoing optimization.
  • Ensure the integrity, security, and accessibility of marketing data for real-time insights and actionable intelligence.
  • Promote the adoption of best practices in software development, including Agile methodologies, DevOps, and CI/CD.
  • Define and manage Service Level Agreements (SLAs) for production systems to ensure 24x7 support.

What You'll Bring:

Experience and Background

  • Over 15 years of experience in technology organizations, including 8+ years of building and leading Marketing Technology (MarTech) teams across engineering, product management, data science, and data analysis functions.
  • Over 10 years of experience building large-scale Marketing Technology platforms using Data Warehouse, Data Lakes, Data Pipelines, ETL processes, Data Analytics, and business intelligence tools at scale in both public and private cloud environments.
  • Proven experience with MarTech platforms such as Adobe CDP, Salesforce Marketing Cloud, Adobe Experience Cloud, HubSpot, Marketo, or similar tools.
  • Demonstrated experience in shaping technical vision, reviewing data architectures, and utilizing data frameworks and tools across the stack. Proficient in designing and implementing solutions from inception to production and ongoing support.

Leadership and Strategic Skills

  • Demonstrated exceptional leadership and team-building abilities, with a proven track record of managing high-performing engineering teams and overseeing other managers.
  • Adept at fostering a collaborative and innovative work environment, driving team performance, and achieving organizational goals.
  • Strong strategic thinking and problem-solving abilities, with a focus on delivering business value.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.

Technical Skills and Proficiency

  • Strong background in building data platforms, data integration, API development, and cloud-based technologies (e.g., AWS, Google Cloud, Azure). Experience with Azure cloud services is highly desired.
  • Proficient in technologies such as Software Architecture and Design, Java, NodeJS, Microservices, Snowflake, Kafka, SQL, No-SQL databases, Tableau, and related tools.
  • Deep understanding of customer data platforms (CDPs), real-time and composable CDPs, marketing automation, and personalization technologies.
  • Proficiency in data analytics, machine learning, and AI-driven marketing solutions.
  • Strong knowledge of web technologies, mobile platforms, and digital marketing ecosystems.
  • Expertise in modern software development practices, including Agile, DevOps, and CI/CD.
  • Experienced in designing and implementing robust business intelligence systems that streamline KPI reporting, enhance data visualization, and support real-time decision-making.

Our Director-Technology, earns between $191,400.00-$287,200.00 USD Annual, not to mention all the other amazing rewards that working at AT&T offers. Individual starting salary within this range may depend on geography, experience, expertise, and education/training.
